The ACU appeared to have opted to repeat the successful selection for the previous years 19272 event in the Lake District which saw the women’s team lifting the Silver Vase Trophy so this years A Team was the same as last years successful team.

The programme of the event does not appear to support the above numbers as all being team Ariels. Can anyone shed light on this?

These numbers do not tie up with the programme and so it is more likely this above photo is from another event.

What the papers said!

A full report on the preparation, proceeding and results of the event was provided by the Motorcycling Press. Thanks to the generosity of ‘STB’ we are able to provide access to a readable copy of the issue of ‘the Motor Cycle‘ the 20 September 1928 which carried the event report. This can be read at our library provided by issuu.com.

We have been able to uncover the following reports from British Newspapers archived in the British Library that report on the events of the ISDT which includes a significant review in the daily editions of ‘the Glasgow Herald‘ covering the whole week

  1. I have a medal that my dad got in 1928 – says Furness Motor Sport Club and on the back J Blundell 1928 – we were from Southport but I live in Harrogate now – had no idea the medal was from here – my mother sold all but this one when he died 10 years ago and I know so little about his racing – is there a way of finding out more about his racing with the club?

Hi,just a quick reply regarding the Ariel Gold medal winning trio. The numbers may be wrong but the rider on the right is without doubt Geoff Proe 1904 -1981 my late grandfather.By co-incidence he features in several of the Geoff Charles pictures taken at Roy Evans Motorcycle Shop opening in the 1950’s as does my Grandmother .They where friends of the Evans family. Several pictures taken in Oswestry at motorcycling events feature him and his son,my Uncle
    also.

    Hello,
Firstly thanks for putting all of the above into the public domain.
I own the Scott motorcycle ridden by Billy Moore for the Scott team in the 1928 ISDT.
Reading the programme has been most interesting.
    Thanks.
