Introduction

This year the 34th ISDT visits Gottwaldov (Zlin), Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) 14-19 September 1959

We are currently creating content for this section. Much of the material on this page was provided by Journalist & ex Castrol Rep at the ISDT Harro Esmarch, who very kindly allowed us to have the pleasure of viewing part of his collection. Sadly he recently passed away but we are grateful to learn much of his archive had been passed onto our most loyal friend ‘STB’ who helps immensely. So between Harro & “STB” we have the pleasure of the story of another year’s event.

I am very grateful for a daughter of Hans Deus for providing two images of this ISDT regular from Switzerland who took home a gold medal in 1959

We have had a message from Angelica whose father was the Swiss rider Hans Deus who rode on #181 but she has said this is not her father and since she would clearly know better than me I am sorry we have perpetuated this mix up and have removed his reference from our image. Should anyone know who the rider is with Hans Deus’s bike please let us know.

Tim Gibbes recollection of this ISDT was a frustrating 1959. Returning back to Europe, this time riding again for AMC 500cc he had tried to race the new lightweight 250cc in World Championship MX – a terrible thing, plus riding all sorts but much more in Europe with a few guest rides on 250 DOT, Greeves, & what ever. He rode the AJS in the ISDT. This was my only DNF, when a lower fork triple clamp broke, so the front of bike basically fell off. Later that year AMC sent him to America for the winter to race promoting bikes in a USA still not familiar with Scrambles or MX as it became known.
