I was recently browsing links to ISDT BMW pages when I stumbled upon a perfect example of an old BMW ISDT bike,
reading further I was only to discover it was in fact never an ISDT or even a production off-road BMW but a rather professionally modified R80 and R100 Airheads that had been cut up a touch to recreate that old bike feeling. I was so impressed I looked about the internet to find there is quite an industry out there making versions of these bikes, which due to their sparsity remain very popular, and it only confirms a point I made back several posts ago that BMW is sitting on a small gold mine if it were to release a modern BMW with a retro ISDT if the evidence of the rebirth of the Bonneville is anything to go by.
I hope to shortly add a feature to this modern industry which not only mock-ups replicas of the pre war BMW ISDT bikes but has gone as far totally reconstructing the 1979 ISDT Works BMW’s of which the only 6 made were all destroyed by BMW.
In the meantime this restored and genuine production 1952 BMW Gelandesport found its way to Auction in the USA in May 2012
BMW R68 ISDT Tribute Gelandesport Racer – MidAmerica Auctions.
Another example of an R68 ISDT Replica found on the Weissundblau blog the conversion uses off the shelf kit parts although not cheap are good enough to fool anyone.
Nice bike, are you making the weels or commercial or you found it ?
