Hot on the heels of our announcement for the Launch of a campaign to create events to commemorate the centenary of the ISDT next year, which first took place in August 1913, has taken a major step with news just in from Jim Jones, one of the bedrocks of the Enduro and Big Bike Rallye scene in the UK.
The event will cover four days and on one day will follow the original route of day 1 of the first ISDT. There will be classes for the usual big trail bikes and also off orad bikes that are road legal and classes for classic bikes. The event has the support of the Carlisle City Council who are producing a commemorative program and I am sure if any readers of this have any memorabilia of the first ISDT then I am sure they would like to be able to feature it. You can enter as a solo or in a team of three for motorcycle clubs or trade teams.

The Centennial Rally is to be held over four days in Cumbria, England from 15th to 18th August 2013.
The first International Six Days Trial started in Carlisle, Cumbria, England on 18th August 1913 when one hundred and sixty one competitors tackled a one thousand mile course. Amazingly there were fifty nine motorcycle manufacturers represented. One hundred years later in August 2013, a commemorative rally will be held following a marked route over moorland and forestry tracks with classes for adventure, trail, sports and classic off road motorcycles. Entries will be for individuals and teams of three riders representing motorcycle clubs and trade organisations.
Additionally one hundred riders will ride the very same route as the first day of the first ISDT
The Centennial Ride will be held on Sunday 18th August 2013.
The old timers rode a one hundred and forty eight mile stage on dirt roads and tracks. Those roads have now been sealed and riders who don’t wish to compete on their motorcycles through mud and rocks in the rally can have the ultimate riding experience. The Centennial Ride will start and finish exactly one hundred years to the day as in 1913. The route uses some of the most iconic passes in the Lake District through magnificent scenery and includes a lunch stop at Keswick, where the original riders dined. Preference on this ride will be given to owners and riders of motorcycles that have a connection with the history of the ISDT.
Carlisle City Council welcomes this historic event.
The City Council have provided a prestigious city centre start/finish area adjacent to Carlisle Castle which is ideal for participants and visitors to explore the two thousand year old city. There is plenty of accommodation and restaurants in the city, go to www.discovercarlisle.co.uk for sightseeing information and accommodation details.
This is more than a motorcycle event it is a ‘Festival of the International Six Days.’
Further peripheral events will take place including a buffet and get together on the Saturday night where there will be an opportunity to meet some motorcycle personalities and riders from around the world.

There isn’t any qualification for the rally or the ride which are open to all riders of all abilities with classes for women and older riders. There will be a entry limit for the rally and the ride and all machines will need to be road legal in their country.

I have also been researching the 1913 ISDT and have all the MotorCycle magazine related pages. I’ve worked out onto a current map each day’s route from them, and fine tuned them with the route sheets on this site. Haven’t done anything beyond that yet.
More importantly, in the short turn Cumbria TRF and Nostalgia Scrambles are re-running the 1912 Autumn One Day Reliability Trial, organized by Westmorland MC, and the precursor for the 1913 event, from Kendal on 27th October, as a centenary event. There are some places left.
The planned 1913 celebration coincides with the Nostalgia Scramble week which is held near Sedbergh, and probably is of interest to similarly minded people.
I’ve also researched and mapped the 1927 ISDT.

Steve Thanks for the update as soon as you can give me details of any proposed rides let me know. I would be keen to have any photos of any parts of the course featured in the historic photos as they are now if that is ever possible. If you want to share your maps via this site I am willing to help but if you wish to retain the benefit of that work yourself I fully understand. If you could let me privately have gpx files I would like to use google earth to construct profiles to compare to those in the original programme.
