Our frequent contributor Brian Catt has sent this request – “Marcello Grigorov has just contacted me with the news that he is writing the book of the 1974 ISDT. I didn’t go to that event, so have no real info on it, but am assisting with tuning the British entry list (current list attached for correction/addition).”
If you are or know of any of the riders of the event can you draw their attention to this appeal for information – thanks

I covered the event for the Motor Cycle magazine. Sill have the programme, Press pass and the enamel badge handed out to the Press corps. Probably tons of photographs (all black and white) if I could find them…..
Those were the days when you could take a few cans of film to Rome airport and ask a passenger to carry them back and be met at Heathrow. Imagine the security alert if you tried that today…
Graham Forsdyke
Thanks Graham, how are you been a while since we last spoke… were you the film bomber? 🙂
All, OK here, thanks. You realise that using the b word has now got us both on a few dozen watch lists……LOL
A few dozen more on top of the ones we got harking on about the golden era of East Germany
Ouch !! 40 years ago I was 303 in the Met.Police team all on 650 Cheney Triumphs. Accommodation I recall was in a monastery or similar.1st breakfast, barely cooked boiled egg, request for 3mins. Meant hard boiled daily! All numbers on the bikes were painted in super free hand by a very talented guy. The sun was very strong and Scott helped us out with great Polaroid goggles, superb until you went into a pitch black tunnel in the hills. On the 1st day I recall being overtaken on a stony climb by the then Italian champion Testorini???. Anyway my bike went on 1 cylinder,a stone had somehow broken the left spark plug in half. Unbelievable ! I lasted til Wednesday and retired with a euro sized hole in each piston. The Green Umbria region is a beautiful part of Italy and I was indeed privileged to have taken part.
