I’ve been lagging with a number of articles needing posting but here I’ve now put up a short article on the ISDT 1953 winning 498cc AJS ridden by Hugh Viney which turned up in auction in 2015 after its long term owner passed away.

Good Evening, The article about Hugh Vineys AJS reminded me of the time the BSA factory won the Maudes Trophy when Fred Rist, Brian Martin and Norman Vanhouse each won a Gold in the 1953 ISDT based at Bad Aussee in Austria. Who has custody of that coveted trophy at the moment. hope you can supply the anwser regards Alan Rees
AJS 6 in the Bonham catalogue is not exactly the same machine that Viney rode. Let me explain – nearly all the special items that the riders fitted are absent such as chain oiler, compressed air bottle, ex RAF 8-day (or is it 6?) clock, wheel axle nuts fitted with tommy bars, slotted screw holes on the clutch cover and many other items. The rear number plate is entirely wrong and is for the road machines with steel mudguards. This is not much different from what what later the CSR version of the 500.
