A splendid most fascinating site, well done Highwayman. BUT can you please explain the difference between Works teams, National teams and Vase teams?
I am currently reproducing some of the Royal Enfield Owners Club archives, in which resides the Charlie Rogers private photo album, with some lovely pictures from ISDT and other trial events of the 1940s and 50s. Strangely, I can’t find a photo featuring Jack Stocker’s J2 , the one with the hastily fixed forks. Was he a private entry in 1948? Best rgds
Thanks for your comment Bob. it depends on the age of the ISDT originally the Trophy and Vase Teams were selected by the Auto Cycle Union, who are still the sports governing body in the UK. The Trophy Team had to ride on Motorbikes made in the same country as the team was from, so the British Trophy Team had to ride British made bikes. A ‘Works Team’ was a team on a single marque entered for a separate trophy by a manufacturer. The would enter a team of riders which may well include their best paid riders who may well also be selected for a Trophy or Vase team. With the demise of the number of countries still making bikes by the mid 60’s the trophy requirements made and today in the ISDT the Vase is the Junior Vase and is aimed at younger riders. If the REOC are willing to share any material or use the STT site to promote their archives or information please let me know.
